The holidays are such a busy time, but there’s just a certain sparkle about it all, isn’t there? There’s joyful Christmas music in the background everywhere, the stores have glittery decorations and product displays, and the twinkle of Christmas lights instantly puts a smile on your face. It can be difficult to get back into the swing of things after the tree is all taken down and the presents are packed away –it’s no wonder why Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) hits big around this time.

Keep that holiday glow alive and your spirit warm by keeping yourself active during these cold winter months. We’re from Parker, Colorado, so we know all about cabin fever. Here’s a few tips that we embrace to keep ourselves upbeat after the holidays:

  • Get Outside! Ski or snowboard, and have a ski mountain close by? Grab a few of your friends and visit your local ski mountain as often as possible. Make a Snowman family with your own family, and enjoy hot cocoa inside after. Go ice skating at a local rink. Have a friendly snowball fight. Make snow angels, no matter what your age. Being outside in the cool air helps revive you and feel refreshed, and as long as you have a warm coat, hat, and gloves on, you’ll be having tons of fun!
  • Hone Your Cooking Skills. You’re cooped up inside most of the winter, so why not hone your healthy cooking skills while you’re at it? The popularity of The Food Network and recipe sites online has made it much easier (and more affordable!) to find healthy recipes that actually taste great, too. Taking the time to whip up a great, healthy meal not only helps you unwind after a stressful day, but gives you the satisfaction of having cooked a delicious dish for you and your family.

Try to have a weekly date night with your husband or significant other, even if it’s making shrimp scampi together at home while the kids are out with friends. Having these regular “breaks” built in to your weekly schedule helps you have activities to continually look forward to.

  • Think About Love. Valentine’s Day is only a month away, and whether you have a significant other or not, it’s a day for you to show the people in your life how much you care about them. Sure, it’s best to do this year-round, but there’s nothing wrong with going a little above and beyond on this hearts and flowers themed holiday.
