A Fun, Sweet Holiday Treat – Orange & Cranberry Pinwheels

comments 0

What’s better than giving one of our sweet holiday gift baskets to a friend this year? We’re convinced not bb2much is better than that – except for making them something sweet to enjoy with a hot cup of cocoa! This recipe for Orange & Cranberry Pinwheels – which was adapted from Baked by Rachel’s original recipe – are sure to warm your friend’s heart and keep their tummies full this holiday season.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon of baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of softened butter, unsalted
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 teaspoons of fresh orange zest
  • 1 cup of fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup of chopped pecans (optional)

Directions:

Start by combining your 1-cup of cranberries, your 1 cup of light brown sugar, and your (optional) pecans into a food processor. Blend these ingredients until they are a chunky paste and look like small pieces. Then, put this mixture into the refrigerator until it’s needed later on in the recipe.

Next, combine your butter and granulated sugar into a stand mixer or a large bowl. Cream your butter and sugar together – whether it’s with a stand mixer on the paddle or with a hand mixer – until the ingredients are fully combined. Next, add your salt, eggs, orange zest, and baking powder until all of those ingredients are combined. Then slowly add in your flour until the entire batter is mixed well. Place into the refrigerator for 30 minutes to an hour to chill.

Once your dough is chilled, cut your dough in half. Make sure you cover your countertop in flour to prevent the dough from sticking, and roll with a rolling pin until the dough is a large rectangle. Once the dough is about a quarter of an inch thick, you can put your cranberry filling on top of it – leaving about a half an inch around the corners for bumper room.

Next, you’ll start rolling your dough from the short ends. Once the dough is in a log form, wrap it tightly in a piece of parchment paper, sealing the ends like hard candy. Refrigerator over night.

Baking

Preheat your over to 375 degrees. Slice the dough log in quarter inch pieces, and place them on a baking sheet in the oven for about 8-11 minutes.

Important Reminders for Giving a Holiday Gift Basket

comments 0

At Bisket Baskets, we pride ourselves in using high quality ingredients and products in all of our gift baskets. Unfortunately, not all gift baskets are stocked full of fresh goodies and sturdy dishware. Gift baskets are fun to give during the holiday season, but there are a few things you should keep in mind when buying for someone.

First, make sure the receiver doesn’t have any food allergies. If your co-worker is allergic to nuts you should avoid gifts that contain peanuts, nut butters, etc. even if it’s not the base of the gift. Some people are much more sensitive than others and can have a reaction just from touching the product. The same goes for people with special diets. We highly doubt your vegan cousin would appreciate receiving a holiday gift basket filled with meat and cheese.

Also keep in mind the age in which you’re buying for. A lot of gift baskets come with small trinkets or potentially dangerous kitchenware that wouldn’t fare well in the hands of a young child. We make sure to list the contents of all our gift baskets so you never have to worry about what’s inside.

Why We Love Holiday Gift Baskets

Gift baskets can sometimes be seen as the “easy way out” when it comes to present shopping. However, we think differently! Sure, you can pick up a traditional meat and cheese box, but there’s such a large variety of holiday gift baskets available that you’ll easily find one catered to an individual’s interest.

One of our favorite things about giving and receiving gift baskets is that there’s always some unique product or brand that we haven’t tried before. Wine-inspired cheeses, gourmet coffee blends, and savory soups are just some of the exciting items packed into our gift sets. You can even get a basket filled with nothing but candy for the kids, just make sure they’re not staying overnight with you first!

It’s certainly not a new TV, but a gift basket can bring the family together in its own way. You can spend the entire evening trying out all of the goodies inside or maybe that set of mugs will now be in the rotation for their morning coffee or tea. Whether you use that pizza mix right away or those spices last all through next year, there’s always a little something special inside each basket given.

They may be convenient to buy and require minimal effort on your part but holiday gift baskets are a fun way to give your family, friends, or co-workers something different this year.
